This September will see the city of London host the annual London Design Festival, an event designed to promote and showcase the creative genius that the city has to offer. The London design festival was first held back in 2003 and has continued to grow and develop, attracting designers from all over the country and providing a source of inspiration for many. The festival is an increasingly popular event attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors and this year will be held from the 13th – 21st September at locations across the capital. In its present form the festival hosts over 300 events and exhibitions, each of which is staged by one of its hundreds of partner organisations from across the world. With everything from exhibitions and seminars to pop up events there’s plenty to see for everyone and ample opportunities to find out more about design and experience the latest innovative design trends.
The festival appeals to a wide audience and includes exhibitions from across a broad spectrum of design disciplines. Highlights of this year’s festival include an exhibition entitled “a place called home” which will see 4 designers display their interpretation of the phrase “a place called home” in London’s Trafalgar square. Whilst each of the four installations will appear similar from the outside, inside each will be a vision of each individual designers own inspiration.
For fans of graphic design this year’s event includes an exhibition centred on the works of one of the most influential graphic designers of the 20th century, Abram Games. The festival will also be hosting its own special graphics weekend consisting of a selection of workshops and demonstrations centred around the theme of Graphics, which is free to attend.
