Web design trends can change from month to month but usually we can identify a few key trends that each year has, so what is 2015 expected to look like in web design?

We’ve pulled together a list of 3 trends that we think will dominate web design in 2015 to help you get ahead of the competition and get a trendy website now. Starting with…

Responsive Design

Long gone are the times when you could only design your website for computers and phones and hope that nothing more will be required. In 2015 users will regularly use tablets, smart watches and even TVs to browse the internet, and if your website isn’t responsive to all of these browser types then you may be alienating some of your users.

Having a responsive design means that your website will adapt to any kind of browser and will always be appropriately sized and easy to navigate.

Responsive web designs have been present for quite some time, but in 2015 they will start popping up more frequently to meet user’s needs for a website that can be viewed no matter what device they are using.

Images will get bigger

Large images are better than smaller images in most situations, but in the past a limited bandwidth has meant that putting a bigger image may not be worth the extra three seconds of loading time.

However, in 2015, 4G mobile internet and fibre-optic broadband are becoming more and more popular. This means that web designers can now make websites that are bigger than they were in the past without worrying about loading speeds.

With this trend we will start to see larger images being used on websites in many creative ways, such as on large sliders or as page backgrounds.

Animations and effects

In 2014 you may have seen an effect called “parallax scrolling” being used on quite a few websites.

This is an effect in which elements on a page scroll can have special animations or movements on a page that are controlled by the user scrolling through the page. Many websites have used this effect to create a website that is more engaging and it has even been reported that the effect can improve engagement as much as 70%!

As web-browsers become more powerful and internet speeds increase, web designers will be able to use effects like parallax and many others to make websites more interesting than their 2013/14 counterparts.
